FAQs
Come and join in a family fun day learning and applying some useful bush craft skills, spend time having lunch together, meet like minded people and throw an axe at some targets.
(Please note that the $10 booking fee is non-refundable and the balance of $50 is payable on the day at the gate - CASH ONLY)
Morning session (9:00am to 12:00pm) – Rope making, lashing and fire bending
Join in and make something useful like a camping stool, wood rack or pot plant stand, or whatever you can imagine by lashing bamboo or timber with rope you’ve made yourself from twine. If you feel more adventurous, then you could try your hand at wood joinery using only a pocket knife to make a camping stool that is able to be dismantled.
Have you ever shaped or bent wood over a fire? Why not give it a go?
We will start by learning how to make cordage from natural fibre twine such as sisal or jute twine. Then we will move on to learning some lashing techniques and how to carve basic bush timber joints. If time permits, we will also try our hands at bending and forming wood in a fire. Wearing gloves when doing fire bending is normally a good idea.
Lunch (12:00pm to 1:30pm) – BYO BBQ
Bring some meat to grill on a charcoal fire for lunch and something to drink. Bread rolls and some salads will be provided. You are welcome to bring and enjoy a beer or glass of wine with your lunch. This will also give an opportunity to mingle and meet likeminded people and make some new friends.
Afternoon session (1:30pm to 4:00pm) – Axe throwing
Release your inner Viking and finish off the day with the fun activity of axe throwing or continue on your morning project. This activity is probably not suitable for kids under 12 (parent/guardian discretion required. Parents will be responsible for supervision). An alternative activity will be available for those kids who are too young or do not want to participate in the axe throwing.
What you need to bring
Pocket knife, multi tool like a Leatherman or a bushcraft knife.
Camping chair unless you are happy to sit on the ground.
Meat to bbq and a drink of your choice.
Water to keep you hydrated during the day.
Garden or leather gloves unless you are used to working with your hands and don’t care about scrapes and cuts on it. Doing structural lashing with sisal rope can be brutal on hands and bamboo can be extremely sharp resulting in quite deep cuts.
What you will be provided with
Plates and cutlery.
Sisal and/or jute twine.
Bamboo and timber sections (You are welcome to take your project home).
Bread rolls and salad.
Axes for the afternoon activity (Not to be taken home).
